Spanish Steps in
FRANCE
Le Chemin de Saint Jacques
May 28-June 10, 2016

Here at Spanish Steps we're already gearing up for our 22nd season of leading Camino de Santiago tours.  Naturally, we are very excited to be sharing with you our walk along the Camino in France, Le Chemin de Saint Jacques or commonly known to the locals as the GR-65, one of nearly 70 long-distance marked footpaths you will throughout the country.  Join us in 2016 on the Chemin de Saint Jacques in southern France as we follow wonderfully marked trails though enchanted forests, quintessential French villages, and mediaeval towns.

You can find more information, including a reading list and videos of the region.

France - Le Chemin de Saint Jacques 2011

Le Chemin de Saint Jacques~Part 1
Le Puy en Velay to Figeac

April 24-May 7, 2011

250 kilometers of beautifully marked footpaths through a rural part of south-central France.
On this 14-day walking holiday, starting in Le Puy en Velay at the headwaters of the Loire, we follow an ancient Roman Road and the Way of St. James (the GR 65) to the town of Figeac on the Cele River. En route, we spend the night in Conques, a pilgrimage site, where stands a magnificent Romanesque abbey and the relics of Saint Foy, a Christian martyr and patron saint of prisoners. This site once attracted thousands of pilgrims on their journey to Santiago de Compostela, located 1400 kilometers away in the northwest corner of the Iberian peninsula.

Yet another Camino map

This map shows the four principle routes that come down from France. In 1995 I walked from Le Puy en Velay to Santiago. This trek took nearly 2 1/2 months. Spanish Steps will be offering the first part of this route on April 25-May 8, 2010. Visit http://www.spanishsteps.com

La Belle France - Chemin de Saint Jacques 2009

Vanessa and I led a small group down the muddy road to Santiago this past April and May, completing the Chemin in France for those trooperes that started this route with me in 2003. This year we'll start once again with Part 1 on April 25 in Le Puy. Join us!
